Road safety awareness

At The Bobby Colleran Trust, we are committed to making roads safer for children. Bobby’s tragic passing in 2014 highlighted the urgent need for greater awareness, education, and action to prevent accidents near schools. Through our Road Safety Awareness initiatives, we work tirelessly to protect young lives and create a culture of safer driving.

Key activities

Here's how we make a difference.

Engagement

School assemblies

We deliver engaging school assemblies across Liverpool city region, directly educating thousands of children on road safety. Sessions include interactive presentations and discussions about the dangers of speeding and the importance of road awareness.

Education

Road safety educational books

In addition to our assemblies, we have four children's educational books to purchase. Our books learn children and family's basic road safety and awareness in a fun, interactive way with Super Bob, with lots of fun activities for you to complete.

Bobby Zones

Bobby Zones are designated areas around schools aimed at enhancing road safety for children. Established in memory of six-year-old Bobby Colleran, who tragically lost his life in a road accident near his school in Liverpool in 2014, these zones are part of the initiatives by The Bobby Colleran Trust to prevent such incidents.

Community action and advocacy

We collaborate with local councils, police, and government bodies to push for policy changes that improve road safety. Through petitions, public awareness campaigns, and community involvement, we empower people to demand safer roads for children.

Our work has already helped reduce speeding and prevent accidents, but we won’t stop until every child can walk to and from school safely.

Slow Down for Bobby Impact

Slow Down for Bobby was our founding initiative, launched in 2014 following the tragic death of Bobby Colleran in a road traffic accident near his school. This campaign focuses on raising awareness and advocating for safer road conditions, particularly around schools.

The pinnacle of our campaign's success was the enforcement of 20mph speed limits around schools.
